Fibro my Arth!

On Friday 12th July Carina Macleod presents her show “Fibro my Arth!” at the Aberdeen Arts Centre 33 King Street, AB24 5AA.

Having been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis, Hebridean born comedian and actress Carina MacLeod decided the best way to cope with her illness was to write a stand-up show about it.

After selling out her 2018 Glasgow Comedy Festival show and then taking it on tour to some of the Highlands and Islands, Carina developed her 60 minute show into a 90 minute show - since then she has sold out her Glasgow show twice over again and also in Liverpool.

June Meeting

Guest Speaker: Eleanor Symon - PASS

The Patient Advice and Support Service is an independent service which provides free, accessible and confidential information, advice and support to patients, their carers and families about NHS healthcare in Scotland and can:

  • provide information, advice and support for anyone who wants to give feedback, make comments, raise concerns or make a complaint about treatment and care provided by the NHS in Scotland.

  • help people to understand their rights and responsibilities as a patient.

  • work with the NHS in Scotland to improve healthcare provision - work that can be done because of the feedback that is provided.

Affa Sair holds meetings where you can have a good blether, moan, and share your experiences of living with chronic pain. We try to have a Guest Speaker at all the meetings but if that is not possible then the members quite happily chat among themselves, enjoy the tea, coffee and eats (usually many home bakes) and have good fun. You're guaranteed to feel a whole lot better after the meeting.

We hear time and time again how people are very nervous to come to the meetings but without exception, everyone who does attend feels very happy they were brave enough to step through the door and join in the fun and laughter.

Just as in the Facebook discussions, you will not be judged, investigated, or ridiculed about your life with chronic pain. You'll soon find that all the other members have the first-hand experience of difficulties like yours. There is not a competition to see whose pain is the worst. Everyone's pain is unique and cannot be fairly compared to others.

The meetings are held in Room 14 of the Alexander Graham Bell Hub at Moray College, Moray Street, Elgin IV30 1JS

Meetings start at 1:00 pm with Guest Speakers starting around 1:30 pm.  You do not have to force yourself to stay for the whole meeting.  You are free to come and go as you please.

There is a small donation for Coffee/Tea/Nibbles.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at our Craft & Claik meeting this Thursday 28th Feb! We're going to be making name badges this month, we've always been going to get around to it but unfortunately due to our conditions keep bloody forgetting🙈🙊🤣
Your welcome to take any crafts you do with you! We'll have a few other bits for you to try that our resident crafty wuman aka Mrs Fiona Bruce has planned!
I'm looking forward to learning how to crochet as she's already got me into knitting which I hadn't done for 22 years and I'm really enjoying doing it plus it's a good distraction and takes your mind off the pain for a while which is most welcome!
Any other ideas of crafts we could try would be very welcome and if you think your up to giving us a demonstration or would like to learn us new skills that would be wonderful too! - ALISON RIDDOCH

So, if you want to know the ins and outs from people who have actually been through the Course and have had time to put what they have learnt into practice, then do come along, listen in and ask any questions you have.
